to OP, the honda is a good way to start, but, steer clear of the El SLO....they are garbage....crx....now thats ok....only problem with that car is at some point or another, your goin to be hating yourself for having a 2 seater when you want to give a ride to 2 friends....(believe me, i have owned 3 crx's, miss them sooo much, but i always hated that) ....than again, if you only have one passenger, you will be less likely to get distracted....so its a toss up...

save up for a K-swapped teg or civic. those are always sweet. good gas milage, good power, responsive to modding.

if you looking at civics then you should also look at other cars in the same ballpark:
Nissan Sentra
Mazda Protege
Toyota Corrolla and Tercel
Subaru Impreza

Buy an mr2. Great gas mileage, extremely reliable, handle awesome and rwd. Plus you can get t-tops and chicks love em.

Fun cars and n/a cars can be had fairly cheap.
