Weve been having a problem with our furnace lately. A friend of my mothers replaced the gas valve and the gold copper tubing that I suppose reads the temperature. However once that was done the furnace would make a boom sound when cutting out. He came by again and adjusted the gas pressure and now the furnace will come on quietly but will blow cooler air and will only stay on for about 15 seconds. I did some googling but id rather have someone else come out and mess with it or give me some step by steps instructions on what to do.

Does it have a pilot light? Is it lit?

 

Yes sir and yes sir again. It lights,the fan comes on and heat blows. Its just not as warm as it was,and it will shut off every 15-20 seconds.

I read that the orifice may need to be cleaned,but personally im not trying to open the wrong latch and loose my face.

I work on HVAC. I am a Maintenance Supervisor at an apartment complex. We also have gas furnaces. Honestly for it to come on, and then cut off sounds like a bad limit control.

Answer this for me.

1.Does the fan stay on when you just set the fan to on?
2.Is the thermal coupling close enough to the pilot light- and is it clean?
3.Can you provide pics or a model/brand?

I would need to see it. Let me know, I live near town center. If it's pretty close I wouldn't charge to come look at it.
