A few years ago I was coming through there around 2:00 AM and saw a Volvo on its side like 150 yards past the intersection resting up against that lamp post by the KFC. Parts were all the way in the opposite lane.

Good! I'm glad they are bringing them back. Too many jack asses fucking running red lights lately. It's like everyday the stupidity and ignorance of people is increasing at an alarming rate.

It's not that the red light cameras themselvers are an invasion of privacy (though they do present evidentiary issues). It's that first they put cameras at red lights, and then what is next? Cameras on every single street corner for no reason other than to monitor people like Mayor Daley has said Chicago will have by 2016?
A more compelling argument is that a 10 year test-run conducted throughout the state by the state government found they decreased traffic safety. That seems to be getting ignored here.
