A stock motord 35r STI on ~22lbs IS safe. Those motors hold 400-450 without a problem...its when you start pushing that limit when it becomes unreliable.

I wouldnt say this is free. He sponsors himself, so he is essentially paying for everything himself. But it would be awesome to have a completely disposable income like him.
