Re: Mount & Balance in Roanoke/Salem area
Hmmm.I figured their policy was now to not mount tires bought elsewhere.I'll probably see Scott today, and I'll ask him exactly what their policy is.
Like I said above,I think many places are getting away from mounting tire you didn't buy there.I think Firestone pays the tech 10-15 minutes per tire,so you figure they're probably paying $20 per set to the tech. The company is only making maybe $30-$40 per set of tiresm, and taking on a huge liability. At least if the tires are bought there, they're making much more money on the deal.
I guess they jack the rates up to either scare people off,or make it worth it to do it.
I hate it too,but I just think about if it's worth it to pay a small fraction of the price of the tires and wheels to ensure they don't get damaged. Also, more than likely this is something you'll only be paying to do once every few years on a street car.
Quality wants $30 a tire for 18s. Do they really cost that much now? I used to go to Jason and Carlos at white tire in Salem a few years ago and it's never been over 65-70 for a set of 17s or 18s. They did however mount one of my tires backwards but took care of the problem right away.

Quality on 12th street nw.
It is the most ghetto place you've ever seen but chris does top notch service out of that little shop. He's used to mounting 22's and 24's,so 18's are no problem. He has mounted multiple sets of tires on some pretty damn expensive wheels for me and never left a scratch on them even when the stretch was rediculous and they barely fit..He is also very resonable.
(540) 342-8438 ask to speak to chris.

I think the biggest thing,no matter where you go is to stress that you're concerned about your valuable wheels being damaged.Go over their policy on what they do should there be a mistake made.Pretty much everywhere has guys that are fully capable,as well as guys that are fully retarded.Make sure they understand the fully capable one needs to do the job! There are guys that can do a perfect job on even the most ancient, basic equipment, and there are guys that can ruin a wheel on even the newest "touchless" machines.

Went to Rick's place on Williamson and got it done for $80. Mount and balance plus valve stems and no visible damage on the wheels at all. It was done in about 40 min as well. Thanks for the input guys.

wow quality has went up then. The one I go to under 581 near the hospital only charges me I think 50 or 60 bucks every time for a full set of 18s. I just had mine put on in April, so if they raised the prices, then they raised them since then.
