4x4 Off Topic Thread
Either way it's a shitload of money, but $2k/each versus $5k/each is quite a difference. If you're building something capable of turning 66's, the tires make or break so that's got to be one of the biggest expenses of the build and one of the most crucial aspects. Either way, I guess that's why so many people get used tractor or heavy equipment tires eh?
So, I just acquired a 1990 Chevy Suburban 1500 4X4.
I want to lift it eventually, But have a few question that maybe you guys could answer.
I am going with a 6" lift, with 35 or 36" tires. Will I need to do anything to the Drive shaft, or transfer case, as in Lowering the case, or extending the drive shaft?
I have read things here and there, but I have not been able to get a definite answer.
The kit I will be going with will most likey be SkyJacker 6" kit with Dual stabalizer and 52-Inch Replacement Rear Springs instead of blocks.
Thanks for any help.

Put the lift on an see if you get any vibrations. I doubt you will with such a long wheel base. Any "kit" you get will recommend if you need driveline modifications if they don't call up the place you are ordering and ask.
K3. Driveline / Exhaust Modifications May Be Necessary.
K6. Optional 4” Offset Drag Link Available - # GMDL4.
K22. If Vehicle is equipped with a front Sway Bar. Lowering Brackets must be ordered.
Let me do some researching.
edit: after looking at a few "kits" The drop transfer case is $30 so it's a good investment to have. Basically install lift with out the drop tcase, see if you get any vibes. If you do then add the drop tcase brackets. I guess this depends on your budget really. I SYE kit is always good to add to a vehicle because it means a stronger output shaft and a CV driveshaft, that is if the vehicle doesn't come factory with a CV shaft.
Depending on steering geometry you may need a drop pitman arm. I never like the brake line relocation brackets. Just as easy to replace the lines with extended lines.
This kit says you may have to do additional things. I would def. call up a shop specializing in lifts an your vehicle to get opinions. Of course everyone has their own way to lift a vehicle.

Rough Country has a lift also

I've never been a fan of Skyjacker stuff besides their shocks but that is with Jeeps.

If the truck has a CV style or Double Cardan style drive shaft already then a drop kit will most likely not be needed in my opinion. Those were made to handle high pinion angles and without the drop kit you'll keep that transfercase tucked up under the truck, out of the line of sight and away from any obstacles you might be dragging it on.
I would almost reconsider a kit with blocks for the rear as some companies design their blocks at angles to pivot the rear axle upwards a little to try and get a better pinion angle for the rear driveshaft/rear diff.

I looked at the rough country also.
I will get extended steel braided lines, and I have no problem getting a drop case for $30.
What is a STE kit?
The one kit says grind down the cluster to prevent binding.. Never done that..
