Its actually not that complicated. The lower tripple has connecting linkage to upper bar set that controls the hub.

The heim joints are only there to deal with the height changes, the original triple tree still turns the wheel. However given that all that crap is still there it likely weighs more than the stock forks.

 

no matter how many drawings I see, or descriptions I read, I have trouble understanding a machine until I see it working. a working model, animated 3d models or cutaways are the best ways for me to understand stuff. seeing one static just confuses me.
