Lame excuse. Ice storms are one thing, ice related to melting snow is a different thing.
It's been below zero when I go to class many days (it was -11 degF at 10AM about 2 weeks ago, -9 degF the day after, but it's usually only a few deg below), the ice is there obviously, and people deal with it. It's below freezing more often then not at this time of year (except for the last few days, where it's been in the 40s). The only ice-related accidents are on the highways usually.
The fact is that many parts of the country live a nice, happy existence without treating a little bit of snow like a debilitating emergency. That's all I'm saying.
