Just because people want to be cheap and lazy. I had a turbo LS1 no real issues with it other than went thru tires like crazy no idea why

This. My GT500 is sporting right around 650/670 to the wheels and it can be a handful with traction control on. You definitely don't want to go from driving something with < 250hp ( just throwing a number out there ) to something with 850, I noticed a HUGE difference gaining 200hp. In the end you're going to go for whatever goal, make sure you've got good tires and set the suspension up properly to safely handle the power.

Hey guys, im back. found a couple of the threads I was reading that I based some of my thoughts, ideas, and information on. still couldn't find the one I read about the difference in the rod length between the GE and GTE debate but I will keep searching. here is a list of the ones I found again.

Ok.
1. I am not putting a LS1 in my supra. I decided a long time ago that I am keeping it in the family. so no more of that mess.

2. I don't want 850 to the wheels just to say I have 850 to the wheels. some people just set goals and try their best to achieve their goals. yes it is a lot. I understand that. yes I know this will be expensive. I don't expect it to be done for at least 7-10 years with everything I want to do in total.

3. I have owned more cars than just my supra and my daily Miata. nonetheless all have not been that fast though I admit.

4. I don't know if I mentioned it earlier but the fastest car I have driven was my friends STI making about 473. very very enjoyable yes. but I would like to build for more. I probably will take it to the track every now and then just to see how it runs. I live very close to MIR (well MDIR now) raceway.

Gen_Crunchytoes, I do like your idea of building the bottom end and head to hold the power and starting off with less and working my way up. probably a good call.

Another quick question too, my supra was bought with the optional 4.10 rear, I quite liked it actually. any thoughts on if I should stick with that gearing ratio or go with a whole new rear setup? im aware I will need a bigger and stronger rear setup.

A 4.10 rear end in a 800 horsepower car is a terrible idea. I'm not sure what people are swapping into those but I'd be seriously considering something in the low 3's.

Rear end ratio is a drivability issue, so you need to do some analysis based on the trans ratios you're going to have and the tire size. You'll want your highway cruise RPM to be reasonable, etc. Gear ratios can make or break a build when it comes to actually driving it.

If you're using a stock trans from the same car, its a safe bet that the stock rear end ratio will be pretty good with a similar to stock tire size. Otherwise you'll need to do actual work to figure things out.

Its pretty simple math to make RPM vs speed plots for all the trans ratios and include the rear end ratio and tire size. Racecar engineers do it all the time, should only take 15 or 20 minutes in Excel.

I strongly feel you're not ready for a build of the magnitude you're contemplating...

I mean... You realize it is going to cost you at a minimum to do it CORRECTLY like $25k. That's really just engine, tranny, rear end, ecu, and tuning.
