From what I understand, PS uses less than 1hp and that is when you are turning. In straight line, there is no HP gain at all with or without the pump. Only benefit is weight reduction.
I am going with a manual box on my T/A for a cleaner install with the new motor and for weight savings. The Alternator will be the only belt driver accessory on my car.

is that for all cars....only 1 hp for power steering....im thinkin bout takin mines out because my PS is actually goin bad.......if i decide to take it out...what can i put in its place to keep the belt real tight.....i got a 95 eclipse n/a
taking it out you will recieve a little more than 1 hp. the unit is belt driven and when you remove it takes less effort for the engine to turn that belt. I took out my ps and ac completely out my car. It freed up ALOT of room in my engine bay and improved my time by atleast .5 sec.

When the car is going in a straight line, the PS Pump isn't doing any work.

1hp more is a 10% increase in power on your car, that is why it felt so much more.
