i have a problem with my sr20det s14.....i just got my 3' cat back exhaust and i took the car out for a test run....not boosting high or reving or even speeding...just a normal drive.....everything was going good so i kept driving around...well about 10miles later i hear a rattle....i pull over and the exhaust starts smoking white smoke....after about 2-3 mins(of just sitting in the parking lot) i turn off the car...i dont have a turbo timer and this was the first time i ran the car....i let it cool down and i turned it back on and the rattling sounds like its coming from the turbo....i took the piping off and i didn't feel as much air coming from the turbo as normal.....so the rattling continues but it stops smoking....any ideas ??

 

ok...i took the turbo off and i noticed that the turbines are not only spining on its axes but it seems loose and moving up and down...im guess this is why i had that rattling noise.....but what would have caused my turbo to do that and can i fix it ??

 

Sound like maybe shaft play. You can pick up another T25 for less than $100 or upgrade to a T28 or better. Check your oil lines and make sure that the turbo is getting oil. Do you have an oil pressure gauge?

 

No i dont have an oil presure gauge....and where can i get a T25 or a T28 for less than $100 at ??....and it is shaft play....cant i just fix it ???

 

it almost sounds like you hydro locked your motor. The white smoke would be coolant getting into one of your cyclinders and the rattling would be KNOCKING. smell your exhaust to see if it smells sweet.

 

imma say turbo gasket, because evrone covered pretty much everything else. if its white smoke it could be the gasket that goes from the turbo to the manifold

 

it sounds like your turbo is bad. do you know what turbo you have. is it an s14 sr or is it an s13 or rps13 sr? get the part# off of the center cartrige(there is a little plate in between the exhaust and compressor w/ lots of numbers). post up those numbers and i may be able to identify exactly what turbo you have. that will help determine if you can "just fix it"

 

Yeah I blew my stock T25 and the turbo rattled, I didnt blow any smoke cuz I just snapped the turbine shaft from the exhaust propellor, you can find those T25's for about 150-200 and the T28's usually go for 350-400.

 

yeah i took the turbo completely apart and some balls (from the ballbearing) fell out as soon as i took the turbins out....the numbers are

can i just rplace the ballbearings or just the center pieace....??

 

with a rebuild kit but you ahve no way of balancing it. just fork over some money and buy a new one.
