1988 firebird swap v6-v8
hey guys, a buddy of mine just bought an 88 firebird with a v6 (believe the 2.8), the engine is pretty much GONEEEE it knocks like crazy, he got a really good deal on it and everything else is fine, 5spd tranny all good. hes thinkin about doin a swap from the v6 to either a 305 or 350. how much is needed to do the swap? hes not looking to spend to much money/time on the car because hes going to shool.
any info would be great
let me kno guys

well both the 305 and the 350 are a dime a dozen. They both come cheap. You can probably get a engine with tranny for $300-$500 on CL. It will drop right in too. This is a quick, cheap, easy swap.

Why is it that people always want to do a fucking swap/project but don't want to spend much time or money?
Tell your friend to stop being a dumb ass and if he doesn't have the time or money don't attempt a project.
What does he have already to work with?

well its the 2.8 and it knocking, he has a job but like i said hes going to school so only working part time.
its not like he expects to spend $300 and its done, jus not like $1000-1500 because he could buy a v8 firebird for the money hes puttin into this one.
yeah i told him the rear end might be different...
well thanks for the info guys, not sure what hes gunna do yet

You'll need to pull a rear from a V8 car if you want it to hold up, you wil need different motor mounts, replace the suspension up front with new parts ( not nessicary, but smart) and you are going to pay about $400-500 for a GOOD running 350. you can get away with a 305 cheaper, but then you wont have the same power.
