Re: Need help, auto 2 5spd swap 240sx
I have used the bearing puller a couple times(but it was for a manual bearing.I did have to use the grease method for the one manual swap I helped work on.
Did the same thing with the socket and extension and had no luck. The grease kept leaking from the extension mating area and around the socket.
When you did this method, was the grease leaking past the socket?
Looked on zilvia or nicco and saw a guy that used a wooden dowel.
So we bought a pretty thick dowel from Michaels and had to shave it a little thinner with sand paper until it fit very snug inside the bearing. Packed the bearing cavity 100% full
of grease, and took a 5lbs mallet and hit it through the bearing like 6 times. The pressure from the grease popped it right out.
If that does not, get creative with a dremel, hammer, vice grips, screwdrivers. Just be careful. But the metal is pretty soft if I remember correctly, so it will not take too long
using a dremel

Tap around the outside race of the bearing with a punch or something similar. Sometimes that loosens up any corrosion between the bearing and flywheel and then it will come out with the normal methods.

You don't hit the actual bearing with the grease method. You make a tight seal and the pressure of the grease pushes the bearing out.

I've always had luck with the bearing pullers.
A trick I saw someone on NICO do was take paper towels soaked in ATF or some other hydraulic fluid, and pack it in. The more you pack in, the more pressure applied to the back of the bearing. He was using a ratchet extension to pack it in IIRC.

I used toilet paper and water. It took a little over thirty minutes and half a roll of charmin (like 3 ply or something) but stuff it in there, stick a 3/8ths extension in there and hammer away. Some of it will squish out the sides and it gets messy but it will work. I did this on an SR20.
