Default Head Gaskets

Was doing some searching. ran across a dyno of a jdm h22 w/ i/h/e. and milled head. put 190.8whp down. got me thinking.. raising the compression helped a good amount.

Whats a brand headgasket to look into? i know Gude makes a 1ply and 2 ply, the 2ply raises me .2 CR.. so i'd be at 10.8:1 compression.

Any ideas?

crate, i hope some more people respond to this, take alook at po.com lots of stuff on it. i was wondering if the type S pistons were worth it. compression alone wont give you 190 to the wheels. My plan was 11.5 and still be able to run on 93 octane and not have to use a wideband or stand alone, hoping a VAFC would be sufficient.

could you post the dyno plot and pass me over the web page for gude

also, have you looked at the spoon gasket? would you happen to know the CR raise on that?

uhm. i read abotu the spoon/gude gasket. its either a 1 ply or 2 ply gasket. and they raise either .1 or .2 CT. so we'd jump to 10.8:1 compression. mild i know. but ehh whatever. =] just thinking about stuff.

sweet, thanks, looks like the type s pistoins, a gasket, and maybe some "slightly" higher compression valves and we can run at about 11.5-4ish

do you have the gude page?

yeah, gotta do some research, because i'm still thinking about the lift on the cams i wanna get, especially if i go stage two skunks, in that case i would just say screw it to teh pistons and just go with the gasket... get new springs and head work.

a metal head gasket, no matter how thin it is, can only raise your compression but so much. i mean, it'll raise it ever so slightly, but milling the head would give it a bit more, but not if you only do .010". if you go too far, you may not clear pistons. you could also deck the block, but here again, you may have clearance probs. better to do the head gasket for security sake and then do higher compression pistons.
higher compression valves?!?!?!

honda evidentally had so many problems with the original head gaskets for the 92-95 civics, that they remade the head bolts and the gasket. the head bolts are now stretch bolts and the gasket is 4 layers of metal, instead of the normal unreliable paper gasket.
