so basically external wastegate can prevent boost creep and in doin so it can help keep the motor from poppin correct? is that the jist?

Boost creep in and of itself won't cause a motor to blow. It really depends on what turbo you have.

...AND the manifold/DP/etc...there are many factors that can warrant the use of an external vice internal. But like eng says, boost creep won't likely blow your motor, it's usually a sudden spike in boost that blows motors...it's just annoying because a boost controller will freak out when ti detects fast creep and oscillate the boost...hence my shitty traps in the 1/ Friday night.
