Default I need tires...

I'm going to take a picture of my tires later on this afternoon if it stops raining, but I really need tires! My tires look like race slicks, and it's obviously not going to be a very safe or productive winter if I continue driving on these rubber bands. My budget is pretty tight because it's up to me right now to pay all the bills for the ol' lady and myself, so I'm trying to spend $300 or less for tires alone, including shipping if necessary. It would be upwards of $260+ just to replace my two bald tires, so I figured I'd get rid of these pathetic stock Michelin Pilot MX's while I'm at it, all around, instead of replacing two tires for the same price almost.

Anyone have any suggestions? Or better yet, does anyone have 4 225-45-17's laying around? I've posted in the classifieds in every forum I'm on and had no luck so far.

You just want the two front tires, or all 4? Being a FWD car, I'd imagine your back ones are in better shape than the front ones.

Back ones are in good shape.. Hardly worn, but I was hoping I could find some kind of crazy deal where I could replace all 4 with better tires than the Michelin's for nearly the same price. Seen it happen before.

i doubt your gonna find a set of good tires for under 300 shipped for a 17.. your best bet would be to get some kumho's on the front or just be really cheap and rotate your tires

try looking into some falken azenis, i dunno for sure if they have them in your size or not but are about the best performing tire for the price. they have poor tread wear life and are definatly NOT a tire for the rain/snow!

Whats the condition of your back tires? If they have atleast 50% tread left, rotate them upfront and get the old front one replaced and place them on the back. Contrary to popular belief any vehicle that gets just 2 tires always place them on the rear irregardless of FWD or not. Could be cheaper for you as well.

i still dont believe that. i was told that at a seminar in charlotte last year, and their theory was that you wanted to maintain stability in a turn (not many people know how to correct for a oversteer condition i was told )

i would rather be able to steer and apply power and some braking on a FWD vehicle.

and on a side note.....i have beaten tireracks price on alot of tires in the past. tires may cost one thing...but look at the shipping also.

last set i priced a guy i sold for 3 bucks less then tirerack.

I had a seminar with Michelin North America, that the reason you want the tires on the rear is slide/skid control in bad weather. The rear is the lightest part of a car and where you will lose contact with the pavement in wet conditions first. They had 2 cars on the same track going through wet weather conditions. Each time the car had new tires on the front, the back would lose contact and spin out. You can do so much trying to control it, but once you lose the rear, its harder to get back(average driver of course). FWD vehicles have the engines weight giving them the weight advantage in traction and steering response.

I also beat their prices.. Guess you are doing well with the new place.
