Why do the majority of you prefer a slower car for your money?

As I said, even Mustang and F-body owners (since those are the only domestics to which you'll refer) as still just as prone to idiotic tendencies and needlessly swollen egos as import economy car owners.

This forum on the z06 board spiked my interest read it... http://www.z06vette.com/forums/showthread.php?t=91561 (if you can, might have to be a member) Basically one guys realization that the "hotrod" is dying... young kids want civics and prefer ricer mods to making a car truly fast.
Why? Why do you want a shitty civic or something when you can can get a damn fast mustang or camaro for the same price.
Plus the sound... no import sounds better than an american V8

Do you have any clue how foolish this actually sounds? Have you given any real thought to it at all? One could easily argue that people like you who are buying a fast car outright, are not hotrodders at all. In fact the people whom you are terming as ricers, are far more deserving of the title then you are. A Hot Rod is a heavily customized vehicle, not always even designed to be super fast. It is not stock, it is modified and personalized by its owner. I would call you an elitist for buying a Corvette just because it is fast already. You are not a hot rodder. You are a fringe automobile enthusiast. If you were a fan of American hot Rods, real hot rods, you would not even suggest buying a stock car just because it was fast by default. Now, I think I kind of fit into the same group as you. I don't have much desire to modify my car, I bought the car that I wanted stock. But in no way do I consider myself a hot rodder. I am an enthusiast, I love to look at what other people have done to their vehicles, import or domestic. You should really think things through before you try and make a generalized statement like this, it just makes you look silly when you attempt to sound like you are being smart, when you are in fact being very hypocritical.

If I were to say "why do these mustang and f-body owners think they're fast just because they have a V8" because I've never lost to one, wouldn't that make me seem pretty foolish? Even despite the fact that it's true?
