A Honda Civic for example is meant to be a cheap economy car, not flashy or goregous no matter what you could do to it just bland imo. But another Honda, the S2K is flashy and pretty. And as far as they go I really like the looks of them, just not big enough or fast enough. I honestly think the main reason Hondas are modded is because of insurance. But full coverage on a Honda Civic is only $20 less a month than full coverage on my GTO which is rated 400hp and I'm 19. Go figure.

My insurance is on my own. My cars I've owned and insurance costs:
98 Dakota full coverage $197 a month
02 Sentra full coverage $202 a month
05 GTO full coverage $220 a month
And the most expensive obviously:
03 GT full coverage $268 a month

I know this isn't what the main question was asking, but I've always thought that "rice" was a type of style. The style seen in Fast and the Furious w/ overly gaudy cars that are (usually) not fast. That being said, I have seen plenty of Mustangs, and even a few Cameros that have been "riced-out".
Also, I got my car because I like the way it looks, and it has potential to be fast...when I can afford it. When I'm done I am not looking to run a specific time, I am hoping it'll be at least in the low 13s, but it that's not the reason I got it. If I wanted to run fast times I would either save a lot of money and get a Supra/IS/(insert American car from 1960s-70s) or I would just build my motor to drag race. The thing is that not everyone wants to drag race...and I'm not quite sure why Drifters are being grouped with Ricers (that's like grouping Dragging with NASCAR) but I also understand there was a question asked directed toward import car owners...and 98% of drifters use import cars. Import cars are used for drifting because drifting is a Japanese sport, plain and simple. If it originated in American like Drag racing then people would use American cars.
I say if someone wants to make a Civic run 9s, have fun, but that's not my cup of tea, but I don't think the domestic community and the import community will see eye to eye unless the people looking at each other have similar time slips.
But to answer the main question is, like most people have been saying, insurance and gas costs.

That car couldn't even make it out of the parking lot with that much water on the ground.

167whp? your adding is way off...but your trap, and QM times are right on the mark

as far as sticker price...i paid 2500$ for my car..i dont know exactly how much cobras go for..but they are somewhere up there.
I saw the races between 99formulam6 and MP5, I actually recorded everything but it was a long time ago so I'm still searching for it. It started out with my buddy Dustin and I leaving Newport News in his red stealth TT with 99formulam6(Chris) a couple minutes behind us. The stealth ran like complete ass but Dustin was still trying to fuck with what we thought was a slow civic. We quickly learned that the civic wasn't slow but was indeed quite fast as he raped us 3 or 4 times. In his embarrassment Dustin told me to call up Chris and I let him know what had happened. A few minutes later Chris pulled up next to the civic and they both dropped a few gears. The first race was from a 40 roll and Chris beat MP5. It wasn't a raping or anything but he was steadily pulling away. After that I believe they raced 2 or 3 more times from slightly higher speeds. The civic would get the jump everytime and then about 80-90mph Chris would begin pulling at which point the civic would slow down. I'm not sure if he slowed because of traffic since there were a few pockets of cars here and there I'm just letting you know what I saw. The racing began up on the peninsula and continued until the last race just past where 564 meets 64. None of the races went anywhere near 140mph so that's total BS. I'd be surprised if they got up to 120. I can't remember exactly what month all this happened, seemed like December/January timeframe. Well, that's about all I remember.
