I have had a few engines I now have a Dart block with Scat crank and rods.

Find out what crank, rods and pistions you are getting from DSS. I dont think you will be happy with what you are going to recieve.

Everyone else is correct about a stock block, a sportsman is better but I would not go over 600 hp with that. You should talk to some people before you wast your money. If you want to go fast call george and he will give you some good advice.

i understand. but why wont i be happy with what DSS will send me?

Question: does DSS have any advertisements in the magazine?

If so, think long and hard about the whole "stick to what i saw" thing.

what are you talking about?? i didnt just look in the magazine, and said "ohh, that looks like a good place to get my motor"...i asked people that have been building engines for years, and i went online, and researched the history of the company, how long they've been in business, and customer satisfaction..they have advertisements..but what i was talking about, was the proof in their engines, someone running low 11's,and the motor living to tell about it.

Yes, it might have gone 11s. But as for whether or not it lived to tell about it, you don't know that. If it did have problems, and I'm not implying it did, but if it did, the magazine would still not say anything bad about one of their paying advertisers.

You say you did research online. From what several others have been saying, nearly every major Mustang forum has stories of trouble with this company and their products. Did you somehow overlook these?

Why didn't you listen to them when they said it the first time, then? It would have saved a lot of time.

I didn't hit asshole level until you replied back being a little crybaby shithead. You laid out a plan full of rookie mistakes. I'd feel bad letting you waste that much money without pointing out where you're going wrong. Like I said though, you're money, not mine. I've been in the game long enough and built enough fast 5.0L cars to know what works and doesn't work and will gladly keep that info to myself if you think a magazine is all the tech knowledge you'll ever need.

http://www.hardcore50.com - pretty much the only respectable forum for tech left these days...it's where most of the big name racers and engine builders hang out.

but that information really put me a step ahead of the game...once again..thanks.

my next step after i order the heads,is to get an MSD 6AL box, blaster coil, new cap, wires, and then start on my fuel...ill probably work on the short block last, seeing as that is the most important part of my project.
You're welcome.

Nic made some very good points in his posts. The thing is that YOU have to honest with yourself about the goals in mind here. If you plan on getting to 500 or so at the tires and calling it done then the stock block based stroker that DSS will sell you should live. If you think that maybe, someday you want to go farther than that then the Dart block based stroker is a better value now since you won't have to spend money upgrading the block later. DSS will allow you to customize your engine with pistons, rods, crankshaft and block of your choice but it will cost you. Another reputable mail order outfit is Keith Craft who will also work with you.

The GT-40 intake is a solid piece with a great reputation. It is known however to only support about 400hp naturally aspirated. That is what people mean by the "it's a little small" remarks that you'll hear. The Trick Flow Track Heat has been doing well in the magazine tests and the Holley SysteMax intake has been a good one also. It's always a good rule of thumb to buy parts you can grow into as your project evolves. Try to remember that as you make your choices.
