i've had four different b series transmissions and all of them have had grinding issues.
hey when you've got a crooked dick you learn to live with it.
* a question, i've heard that short shifters will put extra stress on the transmission since you are generally putting it in gear faster. is there any truth to this?

it puts excess pressure on shift synchros, bearings, and fork but, not as much as any aftermarket part you put on your car. except when not installed properly or cheap machined work shifter. (ie ebay crap)

yes most all b-series are like that, next will be the grind!
even the k swaps have a 2nd rub when cold problem. honda needs to take notes from toyota when building there trans.
