91 talon 4g63

For those of you who are a lot smarter than I....I have a 91 talon that acts like it's running on 3 cylinders, coil packs, plugs, wires all good. Direct Performance suggested to me that the cam sensor or the trasistor to the coil could be bad, is there any way to test these items before I go spend an insane amount of bucks replacing these? Or is there anything else that could be causing this problem? I have checked the injector wires, cleaned the injectors, battery and alternator are both fine, and cannot find any vacuum leaks.

Any help would be appreciated, but for now I am just stuck.....

Here is a quick snippet from the FSM;

POWER TRANSISTOR
NOTE
An analog-type circuit tester should be used.
Power transistor for coil for No. 1 and No. 4 cylinders
(1) Connect the negative (-) terminal of the 1.5V power supply
to terminal 3 of the power transistor; then check whether
there is continuity between terminal 7 and terminal 3
when terminal 6 and the positive (+) terminal are
connected and disconnected.

NOTE
Connect the negative (-) probe of the tester to terminal 7
of the power transistor.
Power transistor for coil for No. 2 and No. 4 cylinders
(1) Connect the negative (-) terminal of the 1.5V power supply
to terminal 3 of the power transistor; then check whether
there is continuity between terminal 1 and terminal 3
when terminal 2 and the positive (+) terminal are
connected and disconnected.

NOTE
Connect the negative (-) probe of the tester to terminal 1
of the power transistor.
If the results of the tests are not as shown above, replace
the power transistor(s).

If you don't have access to a FSM, pick up a Haynes or a Chiltons. They're not as accurate, but they will get you on the right path.

If the cam sensor is bad, the car will not run, or will run extremely rough.. Your symptoms point to the coil or the transistor.

this may not be the brightest question in the world, but what is a FSM?

Factory Service Manual. If you own a DSM, you should have one, because you will need to use it on a regular basis..

Just for a point of note; DSM stands for Diamond Star Motors.
