r6 help
i'm trying to lower my girl's bike and i've already got the 1" lowering links but the repair manual says to lift up the swingarm when installing...don't you have to lift up the whole rear end of the bike including the swingarm so it doesn't drop to the tire? and if so, where would i jack it up or put the stands? thanks for any help

Re: r6 help
Put a jack on the lowest point of the oil pan. You can't do the normal trick of putting a jack on top of the tire and onto the subframe on the R6 because of clearance issues. Be careful when you do this and if you can find a way to stabilize it side by side because it will tip if you don't. What I did to remove my shock (pretty much the same procedure), is leave the swingarm stand on and lift it just enough with a hydraulic jack to take the weight off the swingarm but it was still stabilized because of the stand.

Re: r6 help
you can also put a steel rod thru the swingarm pivot, and jack the bike up, having someone hold the bike steady, and put a jackstand under each end of the steel rod, then lower the bike with the rod thru it onto the jackstands, tha'll hold the rear in the air, and you won't have to worry about the bike falling side to side.

Re: r6 help
what year r6 is it?
i know on my r6 you can just reverse the triangle under the shock to lower the bike.
i dont know about the 2nd and 3rd gen. R6
and if you lower the bike, you will need to shorten the kick stand

Re: r6 help
rear stand won't work because you need the body in the air...that's why i didn't understand the manual to begin with...they said just lift the swingarm, makes no sense. thanks for the help everyone.
oh it's an 03...would the reversing mod work on that year?
and is it just easiest cutting and rewelding the kickstand or can you actually find a place they sell for a reasonable price?
thanks again
