Oil light on 02 R6
This weekend I changed the clutch and did an oil filter and oil change on my bike. Took it out yesterday for about an hour ride and the oil light came on once after getting a little over 60. i backed off the throttle a bit and it went out and didn't come back on. Was on my was to MSF this morning and same thing but it stayed on longer and did it a few more times. The red light would come on and the oil indicatr on the guages would flash. I checked the oil and it is about halfway up the dipstick with the bike level. I put Motul Synthetic 15w-50 because thats what the guys on R6-forums and R6 messagenet were syaing to use. Is that oil to heavy for the cold temps here this time of year? Could that be the problem?
Skrooz can you check my oil pressure and see if that is the problem?

Re: Oil light on 02 R6
i'd double check the oil level.
the oil pump may be starining trying to pump that thick oil too. usually you should only use thicker oil in the hottest part of the year. if you strain the oil pump too much by trying to pump overly thick oil thru it in cold weather, it could take out the pump, and then you'd be in all sorts of trouble.
first things first though. double check the oil level, even run it a lil high if you have to, and take the bike out again and see if it still does it.
btw, don't always go by what people in forums say to do. what's good for the goose isn't always good for the gander. i've fixed MANY a bike that someone broke by following advise from internet forums. (yeah, i know, that's kinda what i'm doing here)

Checked oil level and it is halfway up the stick. I am really thinking the oil is too heavy. When i bought the bike my neighbor drove it home for me and he said nothing ever came on the whole way home and he kinda ran it through its works. And it just did it after the oil change.

yeah, it's probably just the thick oil. if it was the middle of the summer time, it wouldn't be an issue. i'd say switch back to 10/40 and leave it like that. too thick of an oil strains the pump, which can cause MAJOR problems if the pump goes.
