Here are some directions to mountain bike trails around here from our shop but you can figure it out...

Directions to MTB Trails
Nike Carrolton: 2.5mi to end of trail, continue trail in reverse or go out to the road and make it a loop.
Fairly easy as mountain bike trails go yet it’s the closest trail we have so it makes a good after-work ride. Tight turns, wet leaves and pine needles are the biggest challenge.
10 minute drive. Rt. 17 N (High St.) about 8 miles. Left on Smiths Neck Rd. First left on Reynolds Rd. First right on Nike Park Rd. Entrance ½ mile on left. Go all the way past the softball fields. Trail entrance is in the tree line and can be seen from the parking lot.
Gatewood: 6 mile loop. Not too hard, not too easy. Slightly hilly, not overly technical, good for any rider.
20 minute drive. Take 17 N over James River Bridge, exit to the Right after bridge following the exit to the left. Turn left on Warwick and go approx 3-4 miles. Right turn on Gatewood Rd (Brown sign for Lake Maury). Park behind Warwick High School (not during school!) and ride back down Gatewood to the fire road entrance on the right. Ignore the no trespassing sign, the trail is perfectly legal to ride, go down hill and past water. Trail will start on the left immediately after the water.
Harwoods Mill: 3 trails about 8mi total (beginner, intermediate, advanced)
Not too difficult here either. Tight turns, small hills. The intermediate trail is the best (and most challenging) of the three. Please note that these trails don’t drain well and should be avoided for a few days after a rain.
25 minute drive. 664 to 64 W, take 1st J. Clyde Morris Blvd exit (17 N), go approx 4 miles, turn left on Oriana Rd. Park entrance is about 1mi on left immediately after bridge. Trail entrance is across the road another 200yds down Oriana.
New Quarter Park: Redoubt Run 5.5 mile loop.
Fast and fun trail with a few technical areas and some short climbs that will raise the heart rate and get your legs burning.
35 minute drive. From I-64 take exit 242A on to Route 199. After about a mile look for large green sign "(143) Williamsburg" and take that exit bearing right onto Merrimac Trail for about a mile or two heading toward Williamsburg. Turn right at the traffic light past the 7-11 onto Penniman Drive go just pass the school and take the next left onto Hubbard Lane. After about 1 mile you’ll go under a small overpass, just after that turn right onto Lakeshead Drive. There is a green sign for New Quarter Park at the intersection of Hubbard and Lakeshead. Lakeshead Drive ends at the park (a little over a mile). The gate to the trail is usually closed, park in the small lot on the right then go across the field to the tree line.
District Park: Freedom Trail 6 mile loop
Challenging trail, fast and technical. Very well designed trail that makes you want to keep going for more.
45 minute drive. From I-64 west take exit 234 A onto Route 199. Take 3rd exit Longhill Rd. Rt 612, turn right. Longhill will end at District Park.
York River: Marl Ravine 6.5 mile loop
Probably the best trail we have. Pretty hilly and technical, a good workout for even the best riders.
50 minute drive. From I-64 take exit 231B onto Croaker Road (Route 607). Turn right onto Moss Side Lane after 1 ½ miles. At the end of Moss Side Lane bear right onto Riverview Road. Turn left onto York River Park Road after 1 1/2 miles.
Upper County Park: New trail, description will come later.
55 minute drive. From I-64 west take exit 277 Toano to Route 30 South towards Toano/Williamsburg. After 1/3 mile turn right onto Old Stage Rd. Go another 1/3 mile and turn right on Leisure Rd, follow into park.

If any of you are really interested in Southside riding. The EVMA (Eastern Virginia Mountainbike Association) is looking for people to organize things on this side of the water. Most of the trails are 60+miles away for people who live in vabeach, Chesapeake, and Norfolk. We really only have Ipswich on this side of the water which as stated is rather short and somewhat dangerous. There has been a lot of work done to that trail in the past year to make it better, but a lot of it has been undone. I have been in contact with the rangers at Northwest River park in Chesapeake. Still out of the way, but much closer to us. The land is fairly flat, and can be marshy, but is probably the most likely place to build out here. There, or possibly the Oceana area. However we need some dedicated people who are willing to go and build the trail, and help maintain it once it is built.
Good thread, turned out to be twice as informative as I had originally hoped.
I have plans this sunday so i won't be able to meet up or anything, but in the future it will have to happen.
Does anybody know of any good neighborhoods around the ODU area or any places to ride on the street just as a few-times-a-week ride? Yesterday me and a couple of my friends rode down to colonial place and around that a few times and then up to north shore and the hermitage something or other.
'eh took us about an hour but it was fun.
I have plans this sunday so i won't be able to meet up or anything, but in the future it will have to happen.
