G.E.D Program?
Jesus Tapdancing Christ, give the kid a god damned break.
He fucked up, and now hes doing his time. At least hes got a fucking plan, which i way more than I had when I was 15.
If you end up just doing a GED, the military will probably be a good bet, and almost necessary to start life on the right track. What a GED spells out to most is "probably incompetant, couldnt handle highschool" But, what a military backing spells is "disciplined, mature" So it just may work out for you. But like stated, the Navy may be getting more strict.
What would be very open is the Grunt-work. Army/Marines
Then, college. Get a Degree...in anything. The degree will definately erase your GED from most everyone's eyes.
I dont know how you ended up in the situation(well, I can assume) but it doesn't fucking matter. Mistakes are made, and then they are fixed.
It will not be easy.

the marines would be the least likely to take him

All of the paper in the world doesnt mean shit, thats all it is. If you're intelligent, you can get ahead. If you're a moron, having a MBA wont make you money. Period.
This thread is full of so much misinformation it's ridiculous.
1. Contact whatever the local "Adult Learning Center" is. They schedule the GED tests, and offer practice tests and classes. If you're not a complete moron, you can pass the test without even studying.
2. A GED is the same thing as a high school diploma. You will never find an employer who says, "Oh, you only have your GED? Not a high school diploma?", other than some military branches.
3. The Navy/Army/Marines aren't shit, despite what these people are telling you. If you're an intelligent person, and you do well on the ASVAB's, they'll be begging you to join. The Air Force is another matter entirely. I took the test to see how I would score for the Marines, the recruiter was practically stalking me for a year until I moved out of the area.
4. I have a GED, am in my 3rd year of college for Computer Engineering, and work for a Fortune 500 company doing network security. Your options are only limited by how hard you're willing to work.
Your best bet would be getting your GED ASAP, and enrolling in some college courses. The longer you wait, the harder it is to get your foot in the door.

i would like to congradulate you on being a dick head and completely retarded. My balls dropped when i was about 12 which really has nothing to do with me getting my g.e.d. My grandpa dropped out and got his g.e.d , he worked for the city for 25 years making 6 digits and now hes retired getting a 2200$ paycheck for the rest of his life. My father dropped out got his g.e.d and is making 65k a year as a chief in the navy. I know plenty of people who have gone to community college with a g.e.d and its not like i have a choice now in case you couldnt read i have a COURT ORDER to get my g.e.d and a job. Thank you to all the people who actually helped me find a place to get my g.e.d and thank you to the people who got these dickheads off my nuts.
I would like to congratulate you on being a high school dropout calling a college student retarded. I think it is time for you to step back and take a look in the mirror. Seriously, I don't care how much your family made, they are still dropouts in my book. I would only respect them if they were millionaires, and even then they would have to buy it. I am speaking from personal experience. I had considered dropping out for a year get my G.E.D, but I decided I didn't want to take the easy way out. I stayed in school and graduated with a 3.7 GPA. There is not a better feeling in the world then proving not only others wrong, but yourself as well.
Thats funny, because a friend of mine is making $50k+ at 22 with nothing but a GED. I guess I should tell him that he's not going to amount to anything huh

I would also hate to say it, but 50k+ is not much these days.
Care to tell me where a high school diploma gets you that a GED doesn't? It still gets you into college, which is the only thing that matters in todays job market. You seem awfully angry for somebody who most likely doesn't even make 50k, which as you said, isn't much these days.

but in general lol they are both worthless
