well it wasnt really that that one was was a piece of shit. it was how caddy/GM didn't do anything for the guy. my mom drove a GM car for a few years, and getting quality warranty work out of them was like trying to take a dollar bill from a dirty stripper. believe me i know shitty service (i drove a mitsu for 10 years!) and would much prefer to own a car from a company thats known to have excellent service; especially if i'm going to spend $35K on it.
Well my dad bought my mom an '03 CTS in the spring of '02. They still have the car to this day and everytime it's gone in for work (which has only been a couple) they haven't had one problem.
If its got to be brand new, $35,000 puts you in the moderate mid size luxury car range, such as lower 3 series, or Lexus. By all means do not buy an "american" luxury car. I test drove a Lexus IS350 twice, I was seriously considering one, but in the end it was a little cramped and had too stiff a ride down I-264. They are fast though. If you dont mind a year or two old, get a Lexus GS430..300hp, reputation for reliability and quality, luxurious and balla status.
I would maybe consider A new 3 series BMW. I saw a nice ass one at Casey BMW That had red leather interior and dual exhaust, i thought it looked real good.

+1
I love the lexus GS. I wouldnt recommend the Saab 9-3, though its a sweet looking car. I've only heard bad things about its reliability, which is a shame for such a nice looking car. Also look into G35's.
Oh, and the Cadillac CTS-V is neato
