police officers/gov't officials please chime in. we know you are here
Or that when a bill to raise the minimum speed for reckless driving from 80 to 85mph is killed rather quickly; but the bills to raise the minimum fines for speeding 20+ and running red lights are sailing along through the state legislature.

Reckless driving is always at the officer's discretion, you can get one for going the speed limit for an unsafe lane change.

Going 20+ or running a red light puts others in danger, not just yourself. Many violations people get stopped for that they whine about on VaDriven were enforced to protect law abiding citizens. Before some retard cries about speeding, check your braking distance in an empty parking lot -- you'd be amazed at how far it takes for you to stop. There's a reason why there are 852 cars involved in highway accidents when a car is stopped in a travel lane.

Tickets don't pay for new vehicles, gas, wages, insurance or anything else. That's a helluva stupid question. Learn where your tax money goes.

Speaking of unmarked vehicles, I've noticed that Virginia State Police have started using brand new Chevrolet Impalas as unmarked vehicles. I guess they are all getting tired of buying the same Ford vehicle that has been sold to them for the last five or so years.

I agree that people should investigate where the tax money goes. HOWEVER, I will say that what traffic fines fund vary by county. In some instances, it can fund the above mentioned things under SPECIFIC grants approved by the counties to accomplish a specific objective in a specific timeframe.

Or, traffic fines just go into a general fund that is used to fund anything and everything.

There are many more than just that in the lot at State Police HQ. Unmarked Chargers, Cherokees, Explorers, and some vans, too. There are light kit and radio sets that can quickly be installed into any vehicle in the fleet and not be permanent. This means that impounded vehicles can also be used (and they are frequently used for vice squads).

dont know why you think any of us dont.....most of the time ive never done anything to break the law. not my opinion, fact, theyve pull me over, waste my time, piss me off, then let me go. present condition notwithstanding . if theyre doing their job, PREVENTING crimes, then cool. but when they go around trying to START shit cause theres nothing going on, that gets on my nerves. ive been paced for miles, when i had cruise control, and its anoying, because i know the minute i go 1 mile above the limit, they will try to pull me. as for accepting responsibility, i think most of us do. its just being followed because your driving a sports car, or a crappy ass beater car, really gets me hot. if im not doing anything to bother other people, dont fucking bother me. i mean, if your at the bar, have a few, and then walk out the door to your dd ride, and a cop fucks with you for druken public, is that ok with you too?

Wow. Seriously? Do you think that "the man" just prints more money to pay expenses? That causes inflation by devaluing the dollar. Tax revenues are divided among agencies to pay expenses. More to one agency means less to another, so yes in effect it does mean less money for schools. When a cop gets sued for beating a suspect, it means less money in the budget for cops on the street to protect others. A teacher gets sued, less teachers in the classroom to pay for the settlement. It's how the system works. Again, learn where your tax money goes.

the problem is that the richie rich parents who buy their 16yr old an STI get pissed off at his funeral and sue the state police for failing to enforce speed limits

fairfax county gets a TON of money off traffic tickets, but that money is what helps make it one of the richest in the country

the irony is that by having the streets so smooth and well kept, speeding is almost encouraged, and then the money from that ticket goes to pave another road, etc etc. but it's not really ironic if you can find a motive...
