I actually have time to do something about this whole thing now, because I'm currently out of work on injury leave. The PM was sent well over a week ago though.

For some reason, I've been sitting letting this bother the fuck out of me for the last 6 months, and I didn't even think to mention this on this board. Well, here is an update.

For those of you who have been around since 05 you may have read the the other thread that was originally posted in the NoVA section of this forum. (If you read above, you'll realize it was double posted because of my stupidity. Mods please combine the two if you can, but do not delete. I want this thread to be proof of things the parties at Ultimate have promised.) Well anyways, for those that don't remember or don't feel like reading all three pages ( https://www.vadriven.com/forums/showt...light=ultimate ), Ultimate Motorsports in Dulles, Virginia is where Jason Hunt works. My car was brought to him to be tuned, and there was a whole shit load of customer service problems, that basically led to him scamming me into a new distributor for my car. Basically, he took advantage of the fact that my father took my car to him and I was only able to be reached by phone. Well, it is now a little over a year later, and my car hasn't ran since April of 2006... because of a distributor problem. Because of a lack of time, and a few financial problems, it took a bit to diagnose the fact that it is the distributor. Well, about 3 months ago, I called up and spoke with the boys at Ultimate Motorsports about my problem. There technicians install a brand new distributor on my car, using ONLY the top bolt. The distributor now has a crack in the casing and is corroded, HOWEVER, when this was mentioned, I was simply told it was my problem, and they would not offer any warranty on the work or on the actual distributor. So that is where I am now. Please let all of your people know not to use this shop. They are theives.

To be fair you called them 9 months after they installed the distributor. I bet if you would have figured it out immediately there would have been a different outcome.

I concur. While I can't recite Virginia repair law or MD repair law, typically you only have maybe 20 days tops or like 2,000 miles (whichever comes first) to file a claim with the shop stating that they didn't do the initial job right (unless you and the shop agree to an extended warranty of some sort, which you will have paperwork for). But even then, you had a "racing part" installed probably, which don't come with any type of warranty period due to extreme nature the part will most likely be used in. Furthermore, any repair law typically goes out the window when it is reasonable to say the part is being installed on car that will be used in any type of racing fashion.

To finalize the point, when you authorized them to touch your car, I bet the fine print you put your signature next to said that by authorizing the work, you understood the repair law. At most repair shops, signing the authorization form also represents an understanding of the basic repair law.

In short, you waited too long to pinpoint the problem, so you basically have no way of trying to hold the shop responsible for the problem you're having.

In normal circumstances this is true. However this was supposedly a brand new OEM Bosch distributor from Honda (according to Mr. Hunt he had a hookup with the parts guy and was able to get ahold of it after hours), which isn't a "racing" part. Not to mention, I had originally been told it came with a lifetime free replacement warranty through either them or Honda, that was only deemed invalid if used with an aftermarket ignition system such as MSD.

As far as waiting too long to pin point the problem... the problem didn't occur until 9 months later, however, there is absolutely no reason why a brand new distributor should have gone bad in that time, except for the fact that they improperly installed it.

This is exactly why I do all of my own work other than machine work on the engine, and I tune my own car. Dealing with a shop is just not worth it to me.

I wouldn't have a clue where to start as far as tuning the car. I went to Jason Hunt because word around was that he was one of the best. Apparently thats only true when he is working on his own vehicles.
