Go on a beginner bike forum and read read read all you can. Learn as much as you can. This isnt a beginner bike forum. People here get tired of telling the same thing over and over again. There are forums which are dedicated solely to beginners.

it's not myself i worry about, it's the idiots in cages on the phone and not paying attention to what the hell they're doing. people tend to forget what kind of damage a ton of rolling metal and plastic can do when it hits something, and they're deffinatly not thinking abouty what it would do if it hit me and/or my bike.
+100000, thats what most people don't understand, I try explaining that to my friends and parents, but they've never ridden so there's no way for them to really get what I'm saying, and police too, like when I'm riding sometimes I get pulled over.... I know exactly what I'm doing and am riding well within my capabilities, but for some reason the law labels it as "reckless"

it all depends on you.

i started on a 01 ZX7R, and rode it for 4 months or so. Then i sold it and didn't ride for about 6 months.

Now i have a 99 R1 that i learned the feeling of, and i love it.

hence the quote "if you don't get it, you probably never will"

as far as what the law labels reckless, you have to take into account that they have to make the laws for the "lowest common denominator". meaning that not everyone is competent enough to drive above a certain speed, on certain road, or what have you. they have to base the laws on the people that CAN'T drive above a certain point without killing themselves, or someone else. it sucks for the rest of us. too bad the gov't doesn't believe in survival of the fittest, or cleansing the gene pool. they have to save the people who can't save themselves.

So after you made friends with the mini van you should have put those own plates in your head yes? J/K Steve I believe in what you said for the most part. I forget who said it but we should just take the safety labels off everything and let the problem solve itself.
