Default Memorial Day Ticket blah

Welp, I was driving down Independence (where the Post Office is) and I hopped on 64 trying to head towards the beach.

Now, Ive been away at Virginia Tech all year (2nd year there) and theres a shitload of construction going on right in there, Im trying to follow mapquest directions, I was lost, and traffic was a bitch. Not optimum driving conditions.

I pull on to the highway and traffic in my lane (right lane) is ridiculously slow. Traffic in the lane next to me is just as slow. I check my side view and see a little bit of time before more, faster moving traffic catches up so I move to the left lane pretty quickly.

I soon decide I want to get right off at the Greenbriar exit (a hair more than a 1/2 mile away) so I get on it, nothing ridiculous, so I can get in front of all this slow moving shit. I manage to get over to the right lane to get off and the sheet of paper with mapquest directions starts flying around the cabin (windows open) as Im trying to slow down to get off. I try to grab it so I can see where I want to go as there is a Greenbriar north and south exit and the fork is right there. Just as I grab it and slow down: blue lights.

He got me for 66 in a frickin 55. Tried to give me some bullshit about being able to give me a wreckless for switching lanes too fast and also more bullshit about me just getting out of a work zone where its 50. Im a good kid, he was 'nice' (as nice as you can get while handing me with a $100+ fine and higher insurance rates), and he gives me speeding.

Now, I just want to know what I could do in this situation. He got me on his radar at 66 for speeding and I am willing to accept that... but is there any wiggling I can do? I have one other ticket on my record from when I totaled my car back in my young, stupid days (im 19 now), Id just like to get out of this as best as possible.

Any recommendations? Thanks.

...soo you got over to speed up and pass people who had been waiting n line to get off the same exit you were about to get off on. if everyone jus waited a min and didnt jump out to the left just to come back back over into the exit lane traffic would be 'as bad' as it is now.... where you even late to get anywhere or are you just an ass who cant drive?

as for the ticket. i dont see ya getting outta anything unless the judge got some morning head before heading off to work that day. good luck.

Yeah I hate fuckers that do that, drive past like 50 people waiting to take an exit than stop and wait with their blinker on. I swear I get so pissed off when somebody's stupid ass lets them in, fuckin wait like the rest of us who aren't being dicks. I never let people pull that shit in front of me, I swear I would let them hit my car before I stopped to let them go. This should be a goddamn spo (wait to get me all riled up ). I'm glad the cop gave you a ticket for driving like a dumbass in that area with that much damn construction, nobody can get anywhere and your dumb ass is trying to fly around and shit. Yeah it sucks to go slow there but that's no excuse to be an idiot.

no, i was lost and was trying to figure out where i was going. when i got on, i just wanted to get out of the way of traffic so i could figure out where i was and where i needed to be. once i got out of traffic i figured out i should get off at greenbriar and, oh, there it is. i wasnt trying to cut infront of alot of a line.

k. thanks for that. do you think its worth it to take the court date just so i might chance not having the cop show up or just prepay?

also, i read somewhere that under 21 its mandatory to take a driving improvement class but the cop also said i could prepay it? any idea on that?

yea and since he 'didnt know the the area' he shoulda been going slower and watched wtf he was doing. assholes who speed up and try to get in jus slow down another lane for nothing.. get the fuck into the right and jus wait....it wont take that long.

i guess its important to note that when i got on i thought i was going the right direction on 64 but, once i was over in the left lane, i realized i wasnt and wanted to get off instead. ive lived in greenbriar for 13 years so everywhere i go i know how to get there starting at the greenbriar pkwy onramp. i just wanted to get there so i would know where to go. that exit happened to be 1/2 mile away when i came to that conclusion.

wait for court could be lowered not likily but never roll over and take a ticket... always do your best to save on ins fees. tailights, and other bs can be prepaid.

the mandatory thing is DMV they will send you if they think you need it. You have to go when they say go or you dont get to drive. However if you wait on them to say go, then you jus pay the money and take the class but you get nothing else.. IF you take the class before they make you you pay, take class, and get some +points to your DMV report. (going on your own will is always better)

and any idea how this reports to my insurance agency? if i take the class, will it not raise my rates?

i have a previous speeding ticket when i also totaled my car. i took the class then and the ticket was dropped. my parents cover my insurance so i dont know the details if the ticket was still on my insurance record or not.

also, are court fees more if you actually show up to court and not prepay it? and any idea on how much those are?

btw, thanks for the help eclpsed.

Alright, I retract my statement, if you were really just confused or lost or whatever than alright, but if you were trying to just zip by everyone and be quicker or whatever than fuck that, driving like that deserves a ticket.
