Where are some good spots to fish from, not on a boat, in the area. Fresh and salt water. And what do you catch there?

I dont know about southside, but on the peninsula you can catch croaker all day long out of the york river. Anything other than that and you're lucky, or trying to NOT catch croaker. Seriously though James River pier isnt too bad, be out there early and go about halfway down and cast away from the bridge. the pier at yorktown doesnt go far enough, water is too shallow. Cross the bridge and the gloucester pier is better. I dont go there much but I always hear people catching stuff consistantly through the day, still mostly croaker I'm sure. Fishing around here is always better from a boat IMO.

Freshwater spots:

-Lake James by the bridges and along the shorelines in those areas
-By 6 basketball courts across from centerville elementary theres a small canal, good carp and catsish, sometimes bass
-Right by the indian river and lynhaven pkwy intersections, theres a lake and a spot you can pull off to, good fishing there for bass
-stunmpy lake overfill = ginormous catfish.
-Turning left onto s. independence from indian river, theres a canal across the street from an eckerd or a rite aid, cat fish and carp are there
-park at the end of beaufain avenue and youll see woods in front of you, walk to the right along the fence line and when you come to the pipe-bridge, fish from there and cast towards the wood wall with shiners. Huge bass are lurking there.

those are just a few spots i frequent.
