Get a late 80s Mitsubishi Starion/Chrysler Conquest. Spend about a grand on an MPI (stock throttle body injection setup sucks) conversion, couple hundred more for a big 16G, and have a nice, rare, RWD Turbo I4.

a basic civic 92-95 is your best starter platform because you have three body style to pick fromand you can drop this in any one of them

Cast replacement heads without the jet-valves that cause the head crackage are fairly inexpensive. The car is still a lot of work, though. I guess its not for everybody.

As long as they havent been abused, and you dont try and run 15psi all day, they really arent bad cars at all. I drive mine everywhere, been more reliable than my honda.

Now finding a non abused one can be tough

My brother bought a blue Conquistador, 99.5% of them are plagued with rust. You will not find one that wasn't restored and isn't in need of rust repair. He gave up on his Conquest for that reason, it was a rust bucket.

I agree with the fox body Crustang, get yourself an '89 Notchback, I've always been a fan of the 5.0
