BTW, I have a dunlop Qualifier and i love it (better than the metzler i had in the rear). I've heard good things about the pilot powers too. But i think/feel like the PP are tires for more advanced riders; as far as i know, they're like race tires and shit. I think it would take a advanced rider (cojones) to actually USE, and take advantage of them. My dunlop has been very faithful to me so far.
190 to 180 can be a good move to some bikes as they never use the tire to its potential..... On a 1000, the rims are wider hence the reason for a 190 tire but on a 600, wheels are narrower and handle better with a 180 on the rear. Going to a 170 will just stretch the tire and if he does take a corner too sharp, dragging knee etc. ...... he will run out of tire!

As far as the Qualifier, they are a good long wear tire and Metzlers just blow in my opinion.

you dont really see many people on bridgestones in ama, there are a few, but most people are on dunlops/pirellis.

motogp tires are a whole nother bread of tires, that technology will basically never be seen on a affordable street tire.

ive always run michelin race tires and street tires and love them. next season if i still have my trackbike, ill be testing out some pirellis to see what the hype is about.

my advise on tire size is to stay with the size the bike came with. some people move up to a 190 on 600's to get that big tire look, but it wont help you. i definitely would stay off of a 170 tire, thats just asking for trouble. a couple guys at the track with 1000's that i ride with use 180 race tires and love the way the bikes feel, but i would imagine thats personal preferance. you cant go wrong with stock tire sizes.

pm me if you are interested, i have a set of low mileage 120/180 pilot powers from my track bike. i had them on the bike while i was riding it on the street, but its never going to see the street again and i wouldnt use those tires on the track. ill let them go at a good price and if you are local, i can even mount them for you.

i love the pirelli super corsas. i went from a 190 to a 180 on my 1000 and i can't ride my bike w/ the 190 now. it feels like it has no turn in at all. i'm sure it's in my head a little bit but the 180 just flows right over now. i love it. shit, i've heard of guys racing going even higher than a 190 for more tire

some people love the 180's on the 1k's. my buddy rick tried it on his r1 and hated it. i remember the sickest thing ever following him at road atlanta. we were coming out of turn 7 going onto the straight away and he was driving hard off the corner. i was down on my knee trying to outdrive him, and he lights his tire up right in front of my face. he just layed this huge black mark down the pavement. he kept it undercontrol, but it was the coolest thing seeing it in my face like that.

he just said he couldnt drive as hard off the corners on the 180's as he could on his 190. could of just been that particular tire. other guys i talk to love it.
