actually...GM does have a variable cam system....but its mainly used to reduce emissions, its on the 5 and 6 cylinder I engines...in the new trucks and Trailblazer. its kinda cool...IMO.....uses the exhaust cam timing change to revert exhaust gas pulses into the cylinder...in essence, being a built in EGR valve.
yet more pointless info...

And now they have the displacement on demand technology that'll swtich from using 8, to 6 or 4 cyclinder for saving gas. I heard they had plans to use it on something soon. They just keep hitting me with Colorado info instead of telling me about that.
actually...im pretty sure GM has had that technology for a while now. I remmeber reading about a Cadillac El Dorado from the early 90's having that disceplacement on demand type thing. people where having alot of problems with the engagement, when coming to a stop. It would go into 4 cylinder mode and trying to pull a 2 ton car with 4 cylinders is rediculous.

No, in 93-97 chevorlet had vtec and the 3.8L V6. The cars are pretty quick for a v6. The motors always had the technology but did not advertise.

Chevrolet did not have the 3.8 in the Camaro/Fbird that early. The car I saw was very much a 3.4, the 3.8 wasn't available till what half way thru mid 95 and past that its the standard engine.
Oh and saying those cars were pretty quick for a V6....ehhhh the 3.8 sorta, the 3.4 you would be lying to yourself and your 16yr old girlfriend (if she is 17 I apologize) in the mirror at that one. The 3.4 was a mind shattering 160hp and what 200ft*lbs of rose bush pulling torque? The 3.8 is a much better engine for sure, better torque band and imagine this makes over 200hp. There is a reason sports car have sports car engine options, otherwise its just some small car thats underpowered. I forget though that people buy images and not actual cars more today.
