reckless ticket question, yes it sucks
Hey guys, just had a quick question following my story here.
I was driving a ZIPCAR from richmond back to dc, and it was friday night, not many cars on 95-N, in the far left lane, doind about 80 with everyone else.......
...... i was one of the slower cars on the highway that night.

Left lane is for passing, not cruising and is the easiest place for a cop to spot you.
Last time I went up 95 the speed of traffic was around 90. The cops didn't seemed to mind unless people were weaving in and out of traffic or going faster than that.
Dude, that is the strech of 95 where they dont fucking play. I dont know why people dont understand the 79 mph rule on 95. I travel to and from dc two times a week at times, and I put my cruise on 79 and pass troopers all day, not once have I or anyone I told this to, got pulled over. They set their radars at 80 for dumbasses like you. Let me guess you got pulled somewhere between the ladysmith and doswell exits right?
Let me answer for you...It doesn't. The radar will measure every speed in the stationary mode. In the moving mode it can be set so that target speed( you speeding)will be measured when the patrol speed ( the cruiser) reaches 12mph or 20 mph. It can't be "set" to measure speeds once the violator reaches a predetermined speed the officer wants to start writing.

I was driving a ZIPCAR from richmond back to dc, and it was friday night, not many cars on 95-N, in the far left lane, doind about 80 with everyone else. Someone behind me was coming up real fast, so i decided to give it some gas and move out the lane, as i did this i got up to around 85, and right at that moment, passed a state trooper in the median.
I saw him pull out, and ofcourse he was coming for me. He pulled me over, (the ZIPCAR that i had was a 5 door Nissan Versa, nothing special, had zipcar written all over it). Came up to the window, gave him the license, didnt say much to me and my girlfriend, then as he walked away said "im pullin you cause you were doin 20 over the speed limit of 65" came back few minutes later with reckless by speed ticket 85/65, caroline county court.
Anyone know what i can expect? whats the deal with these remedial fees? have a pretty clean record, nothing serious, 21 years old... really dont feel bad about the speed i was going, i was one of the slower cars on the highway that night.

Heres what I did...
Get a lawyer - have him post pone your case as far out as possible
Do over 30 hours of community service - I like animals so I worked at a no-kill shelter with my wife, went by fast.
Take a driver improvement course - do not have them turn it into the DMV unless the judge orders you to take the course or gives you the reckless, this way if you need it again in the future you can get still use it.
If you can get the speedometer tested at the same place the cops do theirs do it - if it is off get it fixed and then go back to get tested again
YOU CANNOT GET PROBATION anymore for speeding or reckless so you need to either have the case dismissed/ reduced to regular speeding which you were off by 1 mph.. you will have to pay something, but if you get reckless its a max 2500 dollar fine + $950 for the civil fees + they can suspend your driving privelages ((which you can most likely get changed to allow for work)) and if you have a bad record or piss the judge off you can go to jail.
If you go without a lawyer you will most likely get the reckless.
Also do not dress like an idiot, wear some slacks long sleeve shirt tucked in and a tie... jeans and a baggy sports shirt are stupid. You will be in front of the judge for at most less than 5 mins - Appearance counts!! Call the judge Sir/Mam or Your Honor... do not call him dude or buddy like some of the idiots I watched recieve the heaviest fines possilbe.

far as I know ,Now the judge or DA cannnot reduce the ticket ,your stuck with the charge and paying a big fine for the next 2 years .and a healtly one after you get your ass handed to you in court, so bring cash.
