If you have the money to put into a tranny build and other stuff, just get a STi. It's a much better platform to start with: better transmission/differentials, bigger brakes/motor.
All in how you drive.
I had a bug eye with the cobb stage 2.5 plus some, with a few tweaks, I came close to 300hp. Very reliably. I used a vf-39, a front mount, and aftermarket intake, pretty much went against all of cobb's advice. Car ran perfectly fine, never gave me an issue. I would suggest a tranny if your aiming to go over 300 though. Thats pretty much getting to pushing its limits. Im not saying it hasn't been done on a stock tranny, but being new to that car, your probably going to push its limits, esp at that power level, its to hard not to. I know with my mods cobb suggested that the car should have run high 12's, I also beat cars that should I have run 12's. Im saying should because I never tracked the car, so I really can't tell you yes, I ran 12's.
I miss my damn Wrx, I think I want another now.
Come back Ricky. I miss you. haha.
But yeah, his statements are true. "A lot of people complaining" were a lot of people that can't drive, or rather, shift correctly. Sure, your tranny has a chance of breaking.. but with an 05, your chances are slimmer than mine and slowrx's, seeing as we had the 02-03's.
Then again, if youre already going to dump 5500 for a tranny like these guys are telling you to, start with an STi.. you'll already have more power, better suspension, better tranny, bigger/better braking system, nice interior, HID's, 2.5 block instead of 2.0 (cause you want an 04/05) etc.

so basically,I have been told by a majority of people I need to start with an STI because the wrx model more than likely wont hold the power I want, great.
lol
im really not trying to drop 20 something thousand on a used car,and only have a little bit left for other things, and investments, which is why I kind of wanted to get the wrx...I dont even know now.

With my WRX i had full exhaust and a UTEC(roughly 2G brand new) and my lowest ET was 13.4 while STOCK ST-i's were running 13.0(both 04 models).
