I am looking for a 89-91 civic Si, and I need to know how to tell a real Si from a swaped dx. My Dads 88 CRX Si's vin starts with a "J" so it was built in Japan. If you can help please post.
Have you tried looking at a Haynes or Chilton manual? The Haynes manual breaks down the VIN number, so you might find the info you're looking for there.
advance auto has a manual that breaks down all the numbers and letters in the VIN#. Just make sure u ask someone that knows whats going on to find the book for ya.
i thought there was an interior difference, but i think thats the only way to tell.....but you can also look for a vtec wire up thats not factory, crx si's came with the 1.6 sohc vtec right?.......and the dx's had the 1.5 non vtec, so i guess you can look for a wiring harness that looks messed with.......
civic's came with a single over head cam 1.6....non vtec... the si has a power sunroof that slides between the roof and headliner, not on top like a CRX.
