hey guys...I tried to make a short video so you guys could hear the sound..but you cant really hear it now. Im going to have to let it sit overnight then in the morning its always loud as shit. Thats whats throwing me off is once the motor warms up you can barley, if at all hear it...but when it sits for 6+ hours you can hear it clear, really loud till it reaches running temp.

it's probably a little rod knock, we see this a lot on older d series , don't sweat it, I've seen em go along time , just let it warm up ,80% of all engine wear happens before engine reaches operating temp....

Here is a short video of the noise. You might have to listen a little close, the camera video isn’t the best quality. sry

Yes that is true, d series are strong, just put some thicker oil in there and call it a day, or pull the pan and do the good old leather strip!!! Dans knows what I mean

That is classic piston slap noise. Remember guys when the engine is cold the piston is loose in the bore. As it warms up the noise goes away. Thats the piston heating up and the skirt expanding and tightening up the piston to wall clearence. NO lifters in the engine... No rod knock because as the engine warms the oil thins, this would increase the noise if it were a rod. Also if you were having a rod problem it would sound like a double knock, pulling the plug wires one at a time till the noise went away would help you pin down which rod was bad. No main bearings will cause a problem like that. if the mains were worn you would lose oil pressure and would be having a whole lot more noise than that. The engine will run for a very long time still.. Just remember it is getting old, it's a little tired. Be easy on it and it will last. Hammer it and it won't! Hope this helps. Dave Brauning...

not reading thread. but as ^ said, if piston slap. it's fine. BUT let it warm up before driving it.
