Don't use brake parts cleaner, use carb and choke cleaner. Brake parts cleaner harms electronics. It's three 10mm bolts on the back side of the cylinder head, near the distributor if it is on a single cam. Send me a PM, I can help you look at your car.
The most I've ever done to any vtec solenoid was to replace the filtered and paper gaskets, wiped the inside clean and insured that the wire and the connector was clean and free of any frayed wires...and finally to check the ohms between the pin and the solenoid housing (14-30 ohm)
