More information needed. Did it work before? Was there anything done to the car? The speed sensor could be the problem, but it could also be other things like the ECU, dash cluster, or the plugs and wires.

Honestly its an electronic part, Sure as shit the stealer ship will ask about 400 to replace it a transmission shop will probably be less but they may not offer a warranty on it

well i just bought a brand new speed sensor and installed it perfectly,,,, and the only thing that has changed is that the speedo needle will occasionally go up to about 5 or 10 mph and the odometer will roll over 1/10 of a mile for probably every mile i drive

TBH you're gonna need some one who has more knowledge of that shit to take a good long look at it, its an old car wiring did go out on these things
