I wasn't saying that because the news didn't say it, it wasn't right. I'm asking where the report came from, I think I read every thread from the time I opened this and didn't see anyone saying things about the driver being drunk, that's all. I was thinking I missed a post, or misread a post, someone that isn't a total dipshit want to clue me in?

#1 the accident wasn't caused by anyone involved in the race.

#2 the asshole that hit the people had no headlights on (normal sign of a drunk driver). It isn't like they just pulled out of the gas station and didn't notice.

Also with the way the media twists almost every story they report. They may have chose to leave the drunk part out because they are so hard pressed to make it a "street racing" related accident.

Street racing may be wrong, but in any case I believe being drunk and/or driving down a highway with no lights on supercedes that.

When the tracks willfully open their gates to anyone with a registered street car and allows them to run(not in an event competition) without the harassment of over the top safety rules, then you can preach your "take it to the track" all you want.

I understand the rules applying to those going to the track every weekend to compete in events for money. However I don't feel I should need such an extinsive cage that makes my vehicle more dangerous to operate on the street without a helmet or be required to pay the NHRA $150 a year for license to operate my 9 sec car. I drive it on the street the way it is so I should be permitted to race in a safe enviorment legally.

If the rules were relaxed and assholes quit shutting down tracks due to noise, housing development or otherwise the problem would get better.

another reason why people race on the street and not the track is because of the retarded rules at the track. if your car passes certain time and speed criteria you are required to have certain things installed in and on your car and self. if these are "street cars" you still need 05 or better certified helmet, 8+ point cages, fire retardant suit, engine gurdles/scatter shields, chutes, and nhra race license, ect. i say this because i know people that have and are going through this, you will 1 pass with a 9 second street car then they want to tech your car again, even at test and tunes. but yet a bike can go as fast as it wants and they only are required to have leather suits and walmart motorcycle helmets. now how fucking fair is that and people wonder why people street race and don't go to the track. if you have a slow car then that isn't a problem, go to the track.

*edit 4sfed4 beat me to it, lol....

Another thing to note is the level of retardation of the rules at the events they do have. I'd race at events if the classes for all the events weren't so picky that I don't fit in any class. Fitting in often requires $1500-2000 changes that a lot of people can't afford to do for just one race. And the rules for NOPI, import vs domestic, etc, just get more and more complicated and harder to comply with every year.

Also, lack of "street night" T&T type events.. Last time I went to MIR it was half bracket racing bullshit. I have been saying for years the DC area would really benefit from an event similar to the RSD event they do in the midwest, where you can set up races for money, with flaggers, etc, and do it on the track at a bi-weekly event. Streetracing is whole different sport from track racing. Streetracing is about winning bets and being the superior competitor. Racing a clock at test and tune gets old. I like to have an opponent.

Back on topic, I agree with the guys who say it's rediculous to blame this on the racers. It was NOT their fault AT all. They were in violation of the law, yes, but that does NOT pardon the person who hit them. The police and media are trying to cover it up and blame it on the racers, and it really is terrible, seeing as drunk driving is WAY more dangerous than streetracing. If that drunk guy had hit someone walking across the road by themselves, without streetracing being involved, he'd be getting charged with manslaughter at least. So far the media says he's been charged with nothing? I hope he gets hit by a fucking Mack truck. Just goes to show the media will do anything to put the word "race" on a story.

Wow, sounds like a bunch of whiny bitches. So with all your rambling in the last three posts, what is your point? Comfortability overrules safety so let's put lives at risk?

What a coincidence you all rep the same kind of car. You guys single handedly give DSM drivers everywhere a bad name.

LoL, im sure that the nay-sayers will figure it out when they get a fast car built to drive on the street. Instead of the car their mom and dad bought them.

New reports say it wasnt the crown vic drivers fault and it didnt state if his lights were off. My friend said has soon as the cars left the line the crown vic hit the crowd. That part of the highway is very dark. I was there earlier and the cars racing were full drag cars so they are going to leave a big cloud of smoke when they are going to leave. The drag cars didnt have there lights on when they ran.
