Racers know the risks and decide to do it anyways. Spectators know people have died at races and they go anyways. Police can do there best to throw racers in jail, but there is an endless number of people willing to do it anyway. I'm sorry you can't press a button and make it stop. All you can do is do your best to stay away from it. People are going to do what they want to do when they want to do it. It's always been that way. Move on, end of story.

This is a terrible situation but it happend and it's over. There is no one to blame but the victims themselves for attending an illegal race where saftey was not a factor. They made a choice to be there in the middle of the fucking road and got hit by some moron driving down the road with no lights on.

Everything I said is pure fact, and that's just how it is.
Post of the millenium.

Their will always be exceptions because lets face it shit happens and being stupid is being stupid. I see more young teens who drive mommy's car around like it a formula 1 race car and 9 out of 10 times cause an accident.
I agree the safety rules keep a lot of people away, but It's not really THAT hard to have your car comply for a normal street night, you just need the basic required safety and a car that doesn't leak shit all over the place. I think what steers more people away from the track than anything is that they want to talk shit and race against people in a run what ya brung, shit talking, betting, fashion, rather than racing against a clock, which is kinda boring. If someone REALLY wanted to cut down on streetracing they'd start a streetrace style event at a local track. It's been proven time and again it DOES reduce streetracing. I forget the numbers but when they did racelegal in california back in the day It reduced streetracing (at least the people cought.. only statistic you can accurately keep really) by some rediculous almost unreal percent. In the midwest they have the "RSD" (Real Street Drag) events which basicly a no rules streetrace night at the track where you can do anything you would do on the street (set people out, bet money, give the hit, race off a flag, NO TIMES, etc) and it's made a big difference out there as well. With these guys bringing out trailor queens on the street I really don't see an event like this being any different than the street at that point. Now when you get to the slow cars that run high 10s-11s, 12s, etc, there becomes a bigger difference between street and track because those cars often don't have suspensions that have been modified and set up to hook well so the surface becomes a major player. These days you need a different motor or turbo for every damn competition because the rules are so picky for classes, that the only way to truly race other cars is on the street. Otherwise you're just racing your timeslips at a test and tune night, which just isn't the same as grudge matches.

Everyones got their own opinions just express yours and leave it at that. no need to insult anybody here it just makes more useless posts.

what is a 61 year old man doing at a street race? And why did that lady they interviewed who's dad died bring her 13 year old daughter? What is street racing turning into, a family event? I'm sorry but i gotta hypothesize on this one and say none of those cars being raced were imports.

Absolutley nothing to do with comfort.
By NHRA rules I am required to have a 10 point cage with a front halo and bars that connect between the front of that to the bars in the front floor pan. I deal with the 5 point on the street even though it is not the most comfortable thing, but try bouncing your head off of a steel bar even in a small collision. I don't want to have to wear a helmet and have my passenger wear a helmet just to drive to McDonalds.

Cost is another BIG issue. I have over $40K in the car now, but to be legal to run at the track, I need $2500+ in chassis work (upgraded rollcage, parachute, etc), NHRA chassis inspection($75 plus a wasted trip to an NHRA event to get it done) and pay the NHRA $150(per year) for a license I am only gonna need 3 or 4 times a year and that is in addition to any event fees. Not to mention you have to have an SFI certified helmet for a car 13.99 or quicker where as a $75 DOT will do just fine for a motorcycle.

The point is it isn't always just as simple as "take it to the track".

If the people hadn't been dumb and walked out into the middle of the road then we wouldn't even be here talking... I don't street race, my friends don't street race and even I knew about 210 and i live two hours away... Someone else already said it, PG county has much bigger problems to worry about. My Criminal Justice professor used to be a high ranking officer for PG and he said they have so many problems up there that if he found someone with weed, he would confiscate it destroy it, and write them a citation for paraphernalia at worst

I would have love to have heard the story if the people didnt get hit, and the 'drunk' driver that was being chased with out his head lights on went zooming threw the street racing zone and the cops chaseing followed and hit the by standers. That would have been great. Then cops would have been blamed for street racing deaths as well.

No comment on who is at fault, it sucks that there are deaths involved.

why because older people don't like to street race too? i guess the only real street racers are between the ages of 16-21.
