You would need a 330 miles round trip commute to justify buying one just to commute in. My math might be alittle off. Checked ebay and auto trader for prices, figured 15k was a good number. 42 month financing, that will put you at about $400 a month, depending on your intrest rate. So you need to save $100 in gas every week, thats $20 a day. Most cars can get 28 mpg highway. I'lll give you extra credit and say you are doing slightly better than 2 times that. So for our given commute, you would put in 1 gallon while I put in 2. So to save $20, roughly 6 gallons, I would have to get 12 gallons, and you would have to get 6. 6gx60mpg=360 miles, 12gx28mpg=336. my rough math is close enough.
bravo bravo, excelt math, and a very good point but truthfully i aouldn't spend 15k i got mine for about half that and with a little research you can find them with under 100k for around 7-8 grand, but even with your calculations in the long run it would still save you money, and i average 60-70 mpg i usaually fill up at 650 miles (wit a little gas left) and it has a 10 gallon tank. still an excellent job on the math, best arguement i'ver heard yet.
