Become an industrial electrician's apprentice. You will have to learn a lot more about wiring, but pay is astronomical if you can get your foot in the door.

thanks for the suggestions. i've been out of town for a wedding (woo!) so i haven't been able to get back on here. anyway, i'm considering the Air Force. anyone heard anything bad about it?
