Are you serious? So learning the friction zone, shifting, braking, accellerating yada yada yada, has nothing in common with riding a street bike? hhhmmm, my mistake, I thought it was the same.

Granted, street and dirt riding require entirely different skills, but the fundamentals are for the most part, the same. No?

sv650s is a perfect starter bike, and not a bad looking bike ethier. Mine gets maybe on average 50-60mpg if you take it easy. Dont let the 650cc fool you, its a v-twin, meaning its way better on gas then most bikes. IM selling mine for 4,500 in the for sale section, check it out.

honda rebel 250 60-70mpg
great on gas,
but top speed is like 70mph for a light weight.
