If the engine is OBD1 you need a OBD1 engine harness and a OBD1 vtec ecu, but if youre using a OBD0 ECU youll need a OBD1 > OBD0 conversion harness, for the dizzy if the dizzy is obd0 and for the ecu if the ecu is obd0. thats more than likely the problem.
the TPS sensor needs to be plugged in, i'd reccomend getting a OBD1 dizzy and obd1 vtec harness and the correct ecu if you want to eliminate the wiring/compatibility issues.
it would still run with the tps unhooked though.

Mmm yes, ECUs love it when you try to run and engine without using the throttle position sensor. Works great. It's really too bad that its arguably the most important sensor on the engine along with the MAF or MAP sensor.
