Between all of those cars listed, I think the E46 M3 would be nice to have as a daily, but throwing tons of money at it will still keep you "slow".

The TL is definitely a sweet ride, my wife likes them. Now we are talking about being even slower. Granted, I would probably look more into Caddy CTS-V's when it came to a TL or that as I like the V better than the TL. Just call me grandpa.

There is a lot out there whether it be a nice supra (which is going to be an easy 25-30K), a newer E46 M3 which is going to be expensive to mod, or a TL which will keep you classy and slow, you have a tough decision to make

Recap:

Supra's are overpriced and getting old in their age. To top it off, their interior is junk, get an RX-7 with an LS1.

Caddy over TL
I agree with most of what you're saying.

However i'd never really want a CTS-V. I assume you've driven one, but we've had several at the dealership, they're sweet, but HUGE. They have a lot of power, but being so large, it really takes some of the fun away.

I've also driven an STS-V and it was cool, V8-supercharged, but still really big and bulky, and problematic.

Not to mention, both of those cars are really pricey. The Supra is certainly dated, but is a hell of a lot nicer, and much easier as a daily to drive than an RX7. My father has had both, and the RX7 was just a hassle to drive around...as is the Supra sometimes. At least the Supra rides smoother, has a better stereo, layout, not as noisy, way more reliable with power..Increases in value faster than an RX7. Need I say more.

I will give the handling/weight aspect to the RX7 though. I like the idea of a fast car that only weighs 2800lbs.

It all comes down to personal preference.

I agree that M3s are expensive to modify, but if you Supercharge one and put some money into it, you get a great car. I love mine, it's quick, fun, reliable...and with my setup I can make some good numbers; lots of power on tap, and above all else, it's a nice car. Very driver oriented; and the interior is great. All you could ask for, and you can still run down half the cars on the street.

One thing I don't like about the E46 M3 is the weight, 3400lbs, which isn't bad...But if it were 400 lbs lighter, it'd certainly be one of the best.

Is anyone using an aftermarket steering wheel/hub and all that jazz in their 2G? curious as to what works.
