The RSX gets a bit from the CAI but (and this may be bold) but the Spec-V/SE-R are reacting with the most gains from bolt-ons out of all the new cars...(especially in TQ #'s)

There is a positive vacume ,meaning the intake has a vacume funneling from the inside out of the circumfrence of the tube at lower rpm's and from the outer to the center of the circumfrence at higher rpm's in the induction system at a change from lower rpm's to higher rpm's you get a lag feeling which is what he's talking about...........

correct. ask anyone with a dual stage intake. the longer the intake runners the slower the response, but more tq.shorter runners equals faster response more power with a little less tq.

long = good for bottom end
short = good for top end

thanx ratedV that was it in a nutshell.

Short ram intakes generally have better top end power, CAIs usually have better midrange power. It has everything to do with intake length, the same as plenum length. The whole air temp thing kinda throws that off though.

It's the same reason that the Type-R manifold makes better top end power than the B16 manifold, but the B16 manifold makes better mid range power. Dyno proven. All about length.

If you want the best of both worlds, (the colder intake air and better top end power), get a short ram intake and make a cold air box for it so it doesn't suck in engine compartment air. Then you don't have to take your car apart to clean your filter, you don't have to worry about hydrolocking your engine, and you can buy a cheaper short ram. BUT you'll still have to build a box around your filter. Nothing is freee......

yea, or you can fab somehitng up similar to my CAI
that big black piece's opening is right by the front of the bay/tip(top) of the hood so the heated air from the engine doesnt interfere with the intake, you could probably diy a better one, with a cone filter and wider opening and more direct air flow. but you get the idea. its cold air with out the crazy piping going everywhere.

i disagree with that comletely, at least on a dyno you have same conditions and you dont have issues pertaining to traction, weight, weather, etc....., on a dyno, you dont have to worry about that affecting you differently each time, it might be hot or something in the dyno room, but wind isnt gonna be blowing you to the left and your not gonna worry about spinning tires of the launch and what not, you can get a better result "test wise" on a dyno than you could on the racetrack, cause what happens when you spin tires in 2nd and the next run you dont and your time is 2 tenths slower than usual and you end doing it back and forth and never go faster than what the car used to run, youll end up blaming it on the intake instead of your driving and youll give it false reviews, thats not the intakes fault, my opinon is the best way to prove hp is on the dyno doing power pulls and monitoring the vitals of your car and making sure there equal on each test run.........like making sure the car was at less than 100 degrees or whatever on the water temp guage before attempting a dyno pull, and that the 2nd pull you do has fresh plugs and what not.......
