Just got back from a 1600 mile roadtrip-Blue Ridge/Deals Gap
We left on Sunday 8/10 in the late morning and got back yesterday around 8 pm.
Started in Powhatan and went to the beginning of the Blue Ridge Parkway via back roads. We planned on riding the Parkway from beginning to end, but my buddy's Harley had a defective tire. That set us back on time so we had to hit the interstate on day two for a bit to make up some of that lost time.
I made tons of passes on the Dragon and saw a cop only once. This was during the week though. In my opinion the only time to be there if you like to get aggressive.
We planned on heading from the Gap to Shady Valley but the weather forecast helped us decide on plan b, which was going to the lake my in-laws keep a couple boats at. This helped ease the monkey butt.
Friday we rode 540 miles straight from the lake to my house. That sucked.
I put up a bunch of pics and stuff here- http://mysite.verizon.net/scythes/index.html
Originally I just gave the link to family so they had a place to watch our progress on the trip. After thinking about it, I figured maybe others out there might be thinking of doing such a trip and would like some ideas. Well, here you go.
I am no web designer, so be easy on me. No ads or pop ups. Just lots of pics and a little story to read.

That's my second year in a row. I recommend it to all. Deals Gap Motorcycle Resort is the only place to stay. It's cheap, clean, and the layout plus small rooms forces socializing in the evening. BYOB.
I also recommend riding the entire Blue Ridge Parkway. I rode it from one end to the other in two days last year. This year, with my buddy's tire trouble, we had to skip a bit of it in order to make up lost time.
The Cherohala Skyway is where people tend to kill themselves. You can carry some big speed into the bigger turns over there compared to the tight slow corners at the Dragon.
