I used to have this phone for Alltel. You don't have to get the data/SmartPhone plan if you already have an existing contract. You can actually add the phone yourself over the phone with Alltel tech support. The only thing is, is that you can't utilize the internet options. Hope this info helps.

This is correct. I have 3 of these phones on 3 diffrent lines. This one is non data...so to answer your questions.
